Power packed/top performer

With the release of the M5 CS (which stands for Competition Sport) comes statistics like no other. In the area of power, it comes equipped with an M TwinPower Turbo V8 engine that results in a maximum output of 627 horsepower, an increase of 10 hp over the M5 Competition. Maximum torque is 553 pound-feet, making it 10 horsepower more powerful than the Competition version, and there is an overall 70 kg weight reduction. An exceptionally high-performance model, the M5 CS is an unbelievably unique combination of power and driving dynamics that can be used in all situations. That includes anything from an every day drive to fast laps on racetracks like Nurburgring Nordschleife.

Maximum grip is presented by the standard, high-performance Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires, 275/35 at the front and 285/35 at the rear, which have been specially matched to the BMW M5 CS. These tires are presented as a no-cost option, and 20-inch gold wheels are also standard. Drivers can also get gold calipers for the carbon-ceramic brakes.

This vehicle will accelerate from 0-62 mph in just 2.9 seconds, the quickest-ever spec, and boasts a top speed of 190 mph. The CS even sounds sweet under full acceleration, thanks to a revised exhaust with stainless steel tips.

Meaningful design = lightest weight

To achieve the CS’s weight reduction, BMW has molded the M5 CS’s hood, front splitter, rear diffuser, rear power and roof from the CFRP. The hood on this model features a power dome and ends and in combination with the already aggressive looking front bumper, it gives the CS even more attitude than the standard M5.

Under hood, the CS uses springs that are 10 percent firmer than those of the standard car and it sits 0.2 inches lower to the ground. It also is presented with a firmer rear anti-roll bar, and dials in slightly more negative camber than the front wheels. Standard is also lightweight carbon-ceramic brakes, while the adaptive shocks have been tweaked. In addition, there is a new Track mode, which functions by turning off all driver aids while blacking out the infotainment display and shuts down speakers so the driver has only the road to focus on.

Top design elements

Giving a look of power and an aggressive feel, the M5 CS comes standard with new carbon-fiber bucket seats among its design elements. They are complemented expertly by a rear bench that has that same aggressive feel. As a reminder of the power that lies within, BMW has also stitched the Nurburgring’s logo into the seat’s headrests.

Also inside, the CS logo is stitched on the dashboard, and there is an Alcantara-clad steering wheel and an Alcantara headliner.

There’s more….

Similar to the Competition, the M5 CS has an active-all-wheel drive system, with torque vectoring between the front and rear axles. The standard Active M rear differential has the ability to further shuffle power between the two back wheels, which is especially helpful since, like all M5s, the CS can shut off its front axle and operate in a rear-wheel-drive mode.

The CS is equipped with the latest iDrive 7 infotainment technology, which is housed on a large touchscreen atop the dash. A digital gauge cluster shows important information as well.

Its weight in gold

To add to its appeal and exclusivity, there are many gold accents throughout the CS, from the ground up. There are the wheels, as well as the gold-bronze finish found on the grille surround and badges. In addition, the LED running lights will illuminate yellow, not white, which brings forth the racing-inspired style.
