Scheduled to make its debut in early 2022, the BMW iX is oh so capable — see what the new age is all about and how this brand continues to blaze trails…

What we know so far…

The BMW iX is based on the Vision iNext concept, unveiled by BMW back in the fall 2018. With the production of the iX, BMW will introduce the brand’s first all-electric compact SUV. It is also the first vehicle to feature fifth-generation scalable EV technology. This means it can be adjusted to accommodate vehicles of different sizes and utility.

While the vehicle’s battery size has not yet been revealed, it will be capable of adding 75 miles for every 10 minutes of charge. It can also be charged from 10 to 80 percent capacity in under 40 minutes, and from 0 to 100 percent in 11 hours. The electric driving range is estimated at 300 miles per charge.

Powering the iX, which will go on sale in early 2022, are two electric motors, which provide full-time all-wheel-drive. The iX will offer about 500-hp from these two motors and promises to reach 0-60 mph in under 5 seconds. There are also carbon-fiber reinforced plastic body panels which serve to help save weight.

The interior of the new iX is marked with a spacious cabin and a plethora of modern technology features on display, which includes an impressive curved digital display instrument panel screen. A floating center console turns this vehicle into a driving experience like no other.

While trim levels have not yet been revealed, nor has standard or optional features, this vehicle is sure to come chock full of what lends itself to the ultimate driving experience.

This vehicle is expected to have similar design elements as the brand’s mid-size X5 and X6 crossovers, and boast a design that is both simple, yet modern. Power front seats are heated as well as feature integrated speakers for the iX’s awesome stereo system.

There is both faux and genuine leather upholsteries presented as well as an option of Loft, which utilizes microfiber cloth. A panoramic glass roof rounds out the spacious interior and is complete with electrochromatic tint to protect against direct sunlight.

Exterior extraordinaire!

Clean and robust, the first-ever iX will be presented in powerful proportions, yet chock full of elegance. That is made clear in a silhouette that extends through four frameless doors with smooth and seamless door handles. Aerodynamic wheels result in giving the vehicle an impressive edge that is brought forth on a long wheelbase. The vehicle’s kidney grille both reinterprets BMW’s classic design as well as serves to house sensors, cameras and radar. Headlights are narrow, giving the look of an all-new generation.

The iX will be presented with a large and impressive 14.9 inch infotainment display, which combines a 12.3-inch digital gauge display thus resulting in the vehicle’s tech-forward dashboard design. This software allows the driver to customize menus and graphics. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will most likely be standard across the board. There will also be wireless smartphone charging capability and an on-board Wi-Fi hotspot. Standard will be an 18-speaker Harman/Kardon stereo system, but BMW will also offer a 30-speaker Bowers & Wilkins setup as an option.
