Predicting greatness
Want a hint of things to come? BMW plans to give you that — and much more — with the i Vision Dynamics, a concept of the brand’s future that is taking the world by storm. An electrified offering, the i Vision Dynamics Concept is not only a capable performer, but a concept ripe with interesting visual elements across the board. In fact, the design is so stunning that it exceeds expectations when it comes to modern appeal. Add to that fresh, rising technology and this agile four-door Gran Coupe is innovative through and through. Here’s what is coming in the (near) future…
Exclusive style
Rare style elements never seen before abound in this four door sedan concept, beginning with a “blacked out” B pillar that gives the side windows a look of seamlessness. Also, the windscreen blends right into the roof, for a sleek, unusual appearance, making the car look more glass than steel — a very futuristic touch — on the top half. On front, the kidney grilles are shellacked, an element that may not appeal to all. But overall, smooth, flowing design comes to mind with the integration of glass and sweeping surfaces. This concept is highlighted by a glass roof that runs all the way from the front windshield to the rear and is in perfect combination with equally proportioned windows for front and back rows.
The front of the concept is also home to two detailed, freestanding LED light elements, with the rear utilizing eye-catching L-shaped lights. This is an added touch that adds to the vehicle’s flair as well as adds sharpness to any departure.
Production may bring a more tone-downed appearance, but the initial glance is attention-getting to say the least! For now, the tires are visible, and the doors open normally, but still it is rooted in innovation! The concept’s styling evolves many established and stable BMW design cues — but in a futuristic way!
Lounge-like interior
Although the inside of the concept has not been completely revealed, plans outline a look of a cavernous, beautifully equipped lounge, perfect for comfort and driver connectivity. The electric powertrain with small motors allows for generous space within, and the series-production model will also feature innovative infotainment. Its interior alone will be a trailblazer for electric vehicles.
Top performance
BMW stands by the fact that the i Vision Dynamics has the ability to travel up to 373 miles on an electric charge, as well as to crank it from a standstill up to 62 mph in 4.0 seconds, topping out around 125 mph. Once the concept moves into series production, BMW will look to differentiate levels by battery capacity. The future may bring forth a bigger battery, but not necessarily a more powerful internal-combustion engine.
Becoming electric
The production variant of the i Vision Dynamics Concept will be one of 12 pure electric cars on offer at BMW by 2025. A distinguishing factor of these vehicles will be autonomy as electrification permeates the BMW core models. Future electric cars will derive design inspiration from this i Vision Dynamics. The purpose of this car is to bring forth a design that has the future in mind, to be not just one step ahead, but many. This concept is a perfect combination of electric mobility and technology, and an example of the “I Do More With Less” philosophy while still being a sedan with plenty of range and keen style elements.
Preparing to launch
When this concept launches in 2021, it will be met with a number of competitors from Volkswagen, Audio, Mercedes Benz and Tesla, among others. The production of this concept will have few alterations. It will utilize the actual KLAR platform, meaning what underpins today’s 5 Series and 7 Series, and just about everything from the next Z4 to X7 and 8 series, all of which has been in concept form recently. In fact, a lot of the design cues will appear on the new generation of i cars, which will have superb handling and truly what the future holds in terms of design and autonomy. The vehicle will be manufactured in Munich and represent the company’s major push toward electrification.
“By 2025, our global vehicle portfolio will include 25 fully- or part-electric models,” Harold Kruger, chairman of the board of management at BMW, explained. “At last year’s Frankfurt Motor Show, we unveiled our take on the future of e-mobility with the BMW i Vision Dynamics. This vehicle will become reality.”
BMW truly expanded its horizons with this concept and is paving the way for a whole new era. Innovation is made clear through illumination and intelligent surfaces that are not only eye-catching but make each and every departure an exercise in greatness. Filling the slot between the i3 and i8, this concept is not only a capable performer but a style icon in many interesting ways. It is not just the look of the future, it is the look of the near future.
Considered the coolest concept car in Frankfurt powered entirely by an electric drivetrain, this concept is on its way to make a name of itself, elevating BMW to a totally new dimension. With a long wheelbase, flowing roofline and an overall futuristic look, this car is undeniably polished. Let it grab your attention right out of the gate. Predicting greatness has never been this clear.
