Still wearing camo, but there is much to uncover when it comes to the all new M5 heading into 2025! With its world premiere right around the corner, a sport sedan like no other and bigger than ever is noteworthy to say the least! An opportunity to get up close with the G90 in Austria at the Salzburgring showed such clues as new headlights and taillights, a big-time hybrid V8 power under hood, as well as other parts of this impressive machine! See what’s in store for the highest-performing 5 Series trim!

Here’s more…

Some finer details!

Parts of the body are shown as part of a slight reveal, including headlights, taillights and what appears to be Vegas Red/Fire Red paint as well as an overall more aggressive front fascia. This model is also presented with the full production body, complete with an imposingly prominent rear diffuser while boasting a variety of M traits. A normal grille by 2024 standards is also presented, as are M mirrors, a trunk lid spoiler and vertical red reflectors. A subtle lip spoiler will flank the trunk with the 2025 model also featuring a new rear fascia with quad exhaust outlets.

A front bumper is complete with an intricate design and loads of air intakes, which serve to cool down the S68 engine under hood.

This M5 is expected to be the only 5 Series with a V8. And speaking of under hood, there is reason to be excited! The V8 will return for the range-topping 5 Series, and coupled with an electric engine as well! All indications point to that powertrain coming from the XM, which is a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 complemented with a single electric motor which generates 644 horsepower. This designation makes it the most powerful M5 out there!

This super sedan is expected to pack 700-hp, with a hybrid powertrain driving all four wheels via an eight-speed M-turned automatic gearbox. Rear-wheel steering and specific M driving modes are also celebrated here!

On the test vehicle are 20-inch front wheels with 285/40 ZR20 tires, which are of Michelin Pilot Sport S 5 rubber, and 21-inch rear alloys with 295/35 rubber. Stopping power is thanks to carbon-ceramic brakes.

Details on the roof are a bit sketchy, and it is uncertain if the G90 has a carbon fiber type.

Inside, there are snazzy sport seats, racy trim and the sleek M branding.

By far the heaviest M5 of them all, the vehicle for 2025’s plug-in hybrid setup will impose a significant weight penalty compared to its predecessor, the F90.

A predecessor packed with technology, the 2025 should surely follow suit, including BMW’s latest iDrive 8.5 system and an interior layout that features a large curved display. That display keenly incorporates driver and infotainment screens as well as the new 5’s Driving Assistant Professional which allows drivers to change lanes by merely peeking out the corresponding side-view mirror. Additional settings are expected, which will make the most of the M5’s hybrid powertrain, thus allowing for better performance and efficiency.

With an official debut scheduled to take place sometime next month, the G90 won’t go easy on the wallet! While no official price has been released, we do know that the outgoing model started at around $110,000. That figure, considering the vehicle’s significant performance boost with its hybrid powertrain, may be somewhere in the range of $120,000.

What else we know!

Not to be forgotten – and truly to be celebrated – a wagon variant in the form the M5 Touring will go on sale as a 2025 model. Expected to be powered exclusively by a plug-in hybrid powertrain, the touring will boast up to 738 horsepower with a likely setup of a twin-turbo V8 engine and electric motor borrowed from the XM SUV.

A more powerful Competition trim is expected, with the M5 featuring all the perks in the area of performance-enhancement such as a rear-wheel steering system, adaptive dampers and a staggered wheel-and-tire package.

It will be powered by the twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8, partnered with an electric motor for the 738 hp, with this powerpack found in the Label trim of the XM SUV, where a battery pack not only provides extra power, but up to 29 miles of electric-only driving range. There will also be adaptive dampers, rear-wheel steering, staggered wheels and tires and much more! Add to that interior comfort and ample cargo space, and this model is your next best choice!

The Touring should be reaching our shores by early next year! This represents the first time a wagon variant has been sold in the U.S., with the Touring expected to carry a starting price tag of about $140,000 and hiking up to $160,000 depending on trim and options.
