What we know!
Through a bulletin, BMW dealers were informed of what is a major change, explaining that new orders are no longer being accepted for the M8 Coupe. What this means is that the selection of large, luxurious grand tourers has lessened, with BMW ending production of the Coupe early in 2025. Order books are closed, and those desiring this vehicle are unfortunately short on luck!
We also know that no 2026 model is planned for the vehicle, first introduced by the German automaker in 2019. The model will be removed from the BMW website, and it is unclear why this choice was made.
The good news, though, is that the M8 Convertible and four-door Gran Coupe will remain, with all M8 models coming in Competition spec, sourcing their power from a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V-8 that makes 617 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque. The power is sent through an eight-speed automatic transmission to a rear-biased all-wheel-drive system. This vehicle is performance personified, reaching 60 mph from 0 in just 2.5 seconds. In addition to its straight-line performance, the M8 boasts impressive grip and shocking nimbleness despite weighing in at 4,251 pounds.
Both the Coupe and Gran Coupe tip the scales at $140,975, with the Convertible model carrying a $10,000 premium.
The announcement of the ending of the production of the M8 Coupe also comes as the automaker is expected to unveil an electric version of the iconic M3 model. The new car, to be named the iM3, will have a power boost courtesy of a quad-motor setup.
In addition, Frank van Meel, who heads up the M Division, also confirmed the brand will be looking into “simulated gear change” tech.
“If you have just one gear, and you have no feedback at all, you don’t know how fast you are going and you cannot look down at the speed,” he said. “You should always know how fast you are going, and that's missing if you have no acoustic feedback and no haptic feedback.”
“We are looking into different ways of giving you that.”
The M8 Coupe joins dozens of other cars coming to their production end. Others include the Audi A4 sedan, the Bugatti, Chiron, the Chevrolet Camaro and Malibu, and many more. And, within the BMW lineups, the X3M is also ceasing production in the new year. Moving forward, it is also expected that the X4 model will be phased out.
The M8 Coupe has ended its run, but there is still much to be excited about when it comes to offerings from the German automaker, including the Gran Coupe and the Convertible, plus many others. See which vehicle best suits your desires, and take a test drive. One is at the end of the road, but many others are for the asking! Reserve yours today!
