High performance has never looked this good! At the iconic Laguna Seca, a legend has been unveiled – the 2025 BMW M4 CS – sharper, faster and lighter than ever, with a new CS trim for those desiring that on-the-track feel! This ultra-performance model, presented in a Competition Sport version, takes the day-to-day driving experience to all new levels. Complete with maximum weight savings and enhanced suspension tuning, those looking for the second-most-ultimate driving M4 now have their wish!
Representing the most athletic M4 coupe for the asking and before being completely track-ready, the heart of the CS is an upgraded 3.0-liter twin-turbo S58 I-6, which runs higher 30.5-psi boost pressures in achieving 543 hp. That, coupled with 479 lb-ft of torque, lands this powerhouse at 2,750 rpm and sticks around through 5,950 rpm. Maximum horsepower is reached at 6,250 rpm, with the engine spinning up to 7,200 rpm.
Improved engine components are found here, possessing the ability to handle increased combustion chamber pressures. The cylinder head is made from a 3D-printed core to allow cooling channels to flow more optimally around the head and improve its thermal management. An oil system has also been improved so as to allow for conditions conducive to track day use such as high-g turning and long periods at rpm.
Within the CS are a unique transmission and AWD, with the engine utilizing a set of mounts that are more than standard M4’s pieces, and which transfer a greater amount of torque into the drivetrain, which is the eight-speed M Steptronic transmission with M’s version of xDrive.
Thanks to the combination of more power and AWD, the M4 CS has the ability to jump to 60 mph in an impressive 3.2 seconds, reaching top speeds of 188 mph thanks to the standard M Driver’s Package.
The M Steptronic can either be manually shifted using the standard carbon fiber padded behind the steering wheel or through the shift lever located on the center console. A Drivelogic button gives the driver the ability to select how the shifts “feel,” with each level selected demonstrating a different shift aggression, from comfort-oriented to being harsh and more direct for a faster feel.
In the AWD mode, the M xDrive system will bias engine torque to the rear axle with a multi-plate clutch in the transfer case. The oil for this part of the drivetrain is also perfectly suited for track use, while allowing the AWD system to remain fully operational during hard driving. Drivers can also take advantage of a fully variable Active M Differential, as well as a rear-wheel-drive mode which can be engaged simply by turning off the Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) for old-school handling.
In the area of suspension, it is made with the maximum traction as well. The Adaptive M suspension M Servotronic variable ratio steering system and braking system are all unique to the M4 CS, which, with the stability control system with M Dynamic Mode, are all designed to start pushing back when it’s detected that the driver is pushing too much. The system works simply by keeping the CS going down the road as quickly as possible.
As drivers reach the corner and in order to get the CS down to a proper speed, a set of M Compound brakes come into play, equipped with calipers painted in either red or black. They peek out from behind a set of M4 CS-exclusive 19-inch front, 20-inch rear forged aluminum wheels. Whatever finish is chosen, these wheels can be optioned in Gold Bronze or Matte Black finishes, or there is a choice of track tires or “ultra-track” tires, which serve to maximize driving around a real race track.
One of the key components of the CS model is the reduction of weight that is realized. This was accomplished by replacing the roof with ultra-lightweight carbon fiber, a material that extends to the hood, front splitter, front air ducts, exterior mirror caps, rear diffuser and Gurney-style rear spoiler. A more light-weight exhaust system is also found thanks to its titanium rear silencer.
As far as exterior looks, the M4 CS comes in two BMW individual finishes, Riviera Blue or Frozen Isle of Man Green metallic, with the latter the only choice on the 2025 model. As options, buyers can opt for the CS in Brooklyn Grey or Black Sapphire metallics.
Also adding to an exterior aesthetic that is both sleek and sharp include frameless kidney grilles, as well as red contour lines and “M4 CS” badging on the upper portion of the two horizontal grille bars. A similar badge is positioned at rear on the trunk lid. A yellow light is used during the welcome illumination and when the high or low beam is active, giving the vehicle that racing feel, similar to the GT3 racer.
Inside, carbon fiber features abound, forming the shift paddles, the M Carbon front seat frames and other trim elements. Seats are luxuriously wrapped in Merino leather with black and red accents, while an iDrive display similar to other BMW’s and featuring a curved display and operating BMW OS 8.5.
Other unique enhancements include M Shift Lights, special widgets for vehicle setup and tire pressures and temperatures and M-specific graphics. There is also an M Setup button that allows direct access to settings, also providing the opportunity to select such features as the M Drift Analyzer, M Laptimer and M Traction Control.
