What we know!
When it comes to power, the M2 engine for 2025 doesn't disappoint. Not only does the M2 get a very nice hike in power to 473 horsepower (20 more than last year), buyers can still opt for a manual gearbox as well. Preferred though is the eight-speed ZF auto box, with the M2 seeing unchanged torque in the manual, yet an increase to 443 pound-feet in the automatic. This results in a quicker vehicle than ever before. In fact, the automaker promises a 0-60 mph jump in 4.1 seconds.
Rear-wheel drive, standard Active M Differential and standard Adaptive M Suspension result in a vehicle that is both agile and extraordinary, and one that is very easy to take command of. Brake quickly thanks to Standard M Compound Brakes, offered with red or blue calipers.
The M2 for 2025 sits atop new silver 19-inch/20-inch M Light Alloy wheels which make for a sporty look through and through, as does the highlighted bold M Frameless Kidney Grille featuring horizontal bars.
In the area of fuel economy, the EPA claims that the new M2 achieves 16 mph city and 23 mpg highway, for a combined 19 mpg. A 13.7-gallon fuel tank means to expect around 300 miles of range before needing to be filled.
Within the new M2 are no drastic changes, although a new red color for the side of the seats is offered, while a new flat-bottom steering wheel with a red 12’o clock marker is standard. In the new model year, the weight-saving Carbon seats in the Carbon Fiber package are also available as a stand-alone option, and only black leather and three trim choices are available. Despite an absence of a lot of customization opportunities, the M2 feels special in many ways, particularly with a manual transmission and carbon buckets. For those hauling groceries, luggage or more, the vehicle’s trunk space measures 13.8 cubic feet. It is suggested to opt for the Carbon Fiber package, with the sport seats swapped out for more aggressive body-hugging buckets to save 24 pounds.
On the outside, take advantage of new colors and make your mark, with exciting choices including Grigio Telesto, Voodoo Blue, Twilight Purple, Java Green and more. They all join the palette as part of BMW’s Individual paint finish program. Additional color changes include standard black exhaust tips and a silver border for the front and rear badges.
When it comes to technology, this vehicle is chock-full. The M2 boasts the latest iDrive software 8.5, which represents an update over last year’s model, powering a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and 14.9-inch center display. There are the usual popular features such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as built-in navigation and voice commands.
The head-up display pairs nicely with Live Cockpit Pro for $1,100, the most expensive standalone non-carbon option on the vehicle. Add $300 to your cost and enjoy the Remote Engine Start.
There are not any add-ons when it comes to driver assistance features for the 2025 model year, but that aligns well with the M2’s no-frills approach to spirited driving. There is, however, standard Front Collision Warning, Active Blind Spot Detection and Lane Departure Warning. A good value at $200 is the Parking Assistant.
Compared to its direct competitors, BMW offers equal or better warranty coverage, and it’s no different here. In fact, its complimentary scheduled maintenance program is unrivaled. Buyers enjoy limited warranty coverage for four years or 50,000 miles; powertrain warranty for four years or 50,000 miles and complimentary maintenance for three years or 36,000 miles.
With production already underway last year, the M2 is poised to arrive mid-2025 and surely prioritizes performance. With next-level power thanks to an intoxicating inline-six, and new hues, the M2 preserves BMW’s classic driving virtues. Fully modern and a sports coupe that undoubtedly delivers, the M2 offers rewarding driving through and through. What’s new with the M2? – Plenty!
