The backstory….
With a long and storied history of refining vehicles, BMW has become synonymous with high-performance luxury vehicles, carrying this reputation proudly for decades. With the ALPINA version of the BMW 3 Series, first introduced in the late 1970s, consistent benchmarks have been set when it comes to performance. That is the case from the early E21 ALPINA C1 to the more recent iterations like the B3 Bi-Turbo, with the automaker always wonderfully pushing the limits of performance, style and luxury.
The new story….
For 2024, the ALPINA B3 GT proudly represents a pinnacle in the lineage of the model’s 3 Series modification. That is brought forth beginning under hood with power delivered via a 3.0-liter inline-six engine featuring twin turbochargers. This results in a whopping 529 hp between 6250 and 6500 rpm, and a peak torque of 730 Nm between 2500 and 4500 rpm. Representing a further refinement of BMW’s S58, this engine mimics its smooth power delivery and robustness.
There are bespoke turbochargers, a unique intercooler system and a reprogrammed ECU which serves to maximize performance. Paired with an 8-speed ZF automatic transmission, the B3 GT boasts seamless gear shifts and optimal power distribution. Especially tuned to provide quicker shifts and more intuitive responses to the driver’s inputs, the ALPINA’s inhabitants enjoy nothing but pure driving pleasure, reveling in blistering acceleration and refined cruising capability.
In addition, the ALPINA’s exhaust system enhances performance while also delivering a sonorous exhaust note.
When it comes to performance, things have gotten even better, with the non-GT version of the B3 experiencing an increase of 34 horsepower and an additional 30 Nm of torque, available from 4500 rpm. This results in a higher top speed for the GT, with those figures for the sedan version at 308 km/h and the touring 305 km/h. The jump from 0-100 km/h is 0.2 seconds quicker with the sedan, and 3.5 seconds for the touring.
It is truly pure driving pleasure that today’s motorists will experience with the ALPINA thanks to outstanding driving dynamics, and the B3’s adaptive suspension system feature. This gives drivers the ability to choose between multiple driving modes, spanning anywhere from relaxed, comfortable driving to an exhilarating and more aggressive ride. The suspension system adapts in real-time to driving conditions, resulting in optimal balance and stability for each and every ride.
These driving dynamics, surprisingly and wonderfully do not result in less ride comfort, and in fact is quite the opposite experience for drivers. With expert engineering going into the ALPINA, the vehicle is outfitted with the signature limited-slip differential, thus enhancing traction and cornering performance. With near perfect weight distribution and precise steering, engaging experiences are a given with the ALPINA. It is not just made for the track, with versatility through and through.
