This concept, which utilizes a 70-kilowatt-hour-battery to power a 270-hp electric motor, results in a driving experience that will undoubtedly be worth the wait. See how BMW meets EV and carves a niche for itself in an ever-changing world. Arriving in 2021, this vehicle not only makes economic sense, but is all you have come to know and love about BMW….
It’s nearly ready! Here’s more…
THE CONCEPT
BMW previewed the concept in 2018, and at that point, the range was already impressive at 249 miles! The concept shares similarities to the regular BMW X3, but is different in that it has a specially developed rear axle subframe and specific chassis integration. Other unique and eye-catching design staples include a reinterpreted kidney grille, blue exterior accents and aerodynamically optimized wheels. The new iX3 concept is equipped with a next generation electric drive system that uses more powerful batteries. Another touch of the concept is that it clusters together the motor, transmission and power electronics into a new, separate electric drive component. This change has helped lessen the weight of individual components within the drive system, fitting into a more flexible modular design structure.
EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED
While the 2021 iX3 will look much like the conventional X3, there are some design changes that are unexpectedly wonderful! That includes cool blue exterior accents, aero-optimized wheels and a unique “i” brand kidney grille that makes this EV stand on its own compared to the X3 lineup. This car will stand out in a growing crowd of EV competition from other automakers. It is a battery powered version of BMW’s core model so you cannot go wrong! As electric cars are becoming more widely accepted, BMW is staying true to its brand and its commitment to the highest quality, responsiveness and comfort around!
BATTERY DESIGN
With a fifth-generation battery design rooted in solid-state batteries, the iX3 promises more than 430 miles on a single charge. That gives a great amount of range and confidence when hitting the road for your next adventure. The concept utilized a 70-kilowatt-hour battery that powered a 270-hp electric motor. Also, this battery can get to a full charge in about 30 minutes and is compatible with 150-kilowatt fast-charging stations.
ALL FLEXIBILITY!
The iX3 is presented with flexible design and architecture that allows for sustainable mobility. This vehicle will accommodate all types of front-wheel, rear-wheel and all-wheel-drive and will make integration into different vehicle architectures significantly easier. For example, the individual components of this new BMW eDrive technology will shine and stand out thanks to its lower weight, scalability and compact construction. In addition, they fit into a flexible modular design structure and can be utilized in a number of ways. The car’s motor is tightly packaged with the transmission and power control units within a compact modular unit that can be scaled up and fitted in a number of BMW’s core models.
SPECIAL DESIGN/INTERIOR HINTS
The styling of the 2021 iX3 will not be a far cry from the conventional version form but have a few differences. The electric model features a conventional kidney grille and slightly different bumpers. This model is also defined by a side charging port and the absence of exhaust tips. Inside, the iX3 will feature the same layout as the conventionally-powered X3 but with high-end materials and in-car technologies. The EV will utilize the new-designed instrument panel and boasts the latest in connectivity technology. BMW is also perfecting self-driving technologies by the time the car launches.
THE iX3 POWERTRAIN
All the details are still not available, but what is for certain is that the 2021 iX3’s Powertrain will not depart from what BMW presented in its original model. That means it will integrate the fifth-generation eDrive system. The newest version has separate components and will use the high-capacity batteries. With this powertrain, the vehicle’s performance and range will not disappoint.
MARKING A MILESTONE
With the launch of the 2021 iX3, BMW will be marking a milestone when it comes to their commitment — and enthrallment — with electrification. BMW was one of the first to explore EV with the plug in hybrids i3 and i8. But with the iX3 and its modular approach, BMW will help drivers adapt to whatever future demands might be. These electric cars will not look radically different from today’s models, with the exception that they will be slightly taller to incorporate under-floor batteries. They are specially developed with a rear axle subframe and chassis accommodations for the battery pack.
See how BMW has taken its core model and developed an electric vehicle that will surely stand out among the competition. The iX3 will be one of 12 electric cars the BMW Group will launch by the end of 2025. This lineup will be nothing short of exciting, with vehicles that will take BMW enthusiasts well into the future. With electrification becoming the new normal, BMW will undoubtedly be a leader, creating a niche of its own. See what all-electric and all dynamic is about…..
